L3 Award in Education and Training (RQF)

A Regulated Qualifications Framework (RQF) course accredited by QNUK

If you’re interested in teaching or training in the adult education sector, the Level 3 Award in Education and Training (AET) is well worth considering. The QNUK Level 3 Award in Education and Training is a foundation course that teaches you the fundamental skills required for being a successful  educator, providing an introduction to teaching adult learners. It develops skills, knowledge and understanding of how to prepare, plan, deliver and evaluate teaching and learning sessions.

Who is this qualification for?

The QNUK Level 3 Award in Education and Training (RQF) provides an introduction to teaching adults for those who would like to work or are currently working within FE Colleges, Independent Training Providers and/or Local Authorities.

Whilst the qualification may be taken by someone not currently in a teaching role there is a minimum requirement to involved in and deliver at least 2 micro-teaching session within a 1-hour session.

To particiapate in this course,  you’ll need to be 19+ years of age, have a good standard of written and spoken English and be able to use MSWord on a computer. In the case of live online delivery, you will need access to the internet and a computer with a camera.

Regulated Qualifications Framework (RQF) accredits qualifications in England, Wales and Northern Ireland.

What does the course involve?

To qualify you will need to complete three mandatory units:

UNIT A — Understanding the Roles, Responsibilities and Relationships in Education and Training
This unit helps you  to understand the introduction of teaching including health and safety,  equal opportunities and the roles of other professionals you may work with.

UNIT B — Understanding and using inclusive teaching and learning approaches in education and training.
This unit helps you to understand  how people learn, the ways in which people communicate and how to use a  range of different teaching methods and resources to help you meet your  learners’ individual needs.

UNIT C — Understanding assessment in Education and Training.
This unit identifies what assessment  is and how to deliver excellent assessment practice. The unit is ideal  for anybody with an interest in assessing workplace achievement or those  delivering regulated qualifications and awards.

How is the course delivered and assessed?

The L3 Award in Education and Training takes approximately 120 hours to complete, with a blend of face-to-face guided learning and self directed learning.

The training is assessed using a blend of assignments, prepared / planned and observed micro-teaching sessions which are compiled into a portfolio of evidence.

Our 4-day face to face classroom-based course is delivered at several locations across the South West. There is also the option to do two days live online training, followed by 2 days of in-person face to face at an agreed venue.

On days 1, 2 and 3 our experienced trainers guide you through the content for the three units, fully preparing you for the written assessments. On these days there is time  to get started on your portfolio of evidence, for collaborative working,  practice micro-teaching, give and receive peer feedback and trainer tutorials.

Day 4 is the practical assessment day, where each learner delivers a 15-minute micro-teach on a subject of their choice.

There is also time on this day to spend time preparing the written assessments and for tutorials with your trainer

After the course, learners are given a month to submit their written assessments, collated into a portfolio of evidence, during which time our trainers are happy to provide formative feedback on your draft work.

The portfolio is marked by a designated assessor, is internal quality assessed and EQA'd by QNUK assessors.

Sector support and industry recognition and costs

The qualification is underpinned by the Education and Training Foundation Professional Standards for Teachers and Trainers in Education and Training and links to the National Occupational Standards (NOS) in Training and Development.

This qualification is delivered by suitably qualified trainers who hold a B.Ed / PGCE / M Ed degree.
